Formula 1 legend & Real Madrid fan Fernando Alonso reveals which Barcelona star he would sign & 'leave on the bench' at Santiago Bernabeu

Two-time F1 world champion Alonso is a passionate Los Blancos supporter. He has been forced to watch on in 2024-25 as Clasico rivals Barca have restored domestic dominance in Spain - claiming La Liga, Super Cup and Copa del Rey titles.

Alonso would welcome any opportunity to weaken old adversaries from Catalunya and has been quizzed on which players he would look to lure away from Camp Nou if given the opportunity in a fictional transfer market.

Rather than plump for teenage wonderkid Lamine Yamal, Alonso jokingly told DAZN: “I would sign Pedri for Madrid, to weaken Barca. I also do that on the PlayStation and then leave him on the bench!”

Pedri has previously admitted that, despite growing up as a Barcelona supporter, he would have signed for Real if they had made an approach to Las Palmas before the Blaugrana came calling in 2020.

Madrid, who have seen their managerial baton passed from Carlo Ancelotti to Xabi Alonso, are reported to be in the market for a new midfielder this summer - with Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric leaving as a free agent. Stuttgart star Angelo Stiller is said to be a top target.
