Miguel Merentiel handed Boca Juniors the lead in the seventh minute from the penalty spot before Hernan Lopez brought the hosts back in the game in the second half. But 10 minutes in the 65th minute, Jorge Figal restored Boca's lead and eventually helped them seal crucial three points.

Around the 90th minute, when Godoy Cruz were trailing 1-2, their fans interrupted the game by bursting firecrackers in the gallery and throwing them onto the pitch. The time-wasting tactics, though, did not work for the home team in the end as Xeneize got the victory despite seven minutes of added time.

It was a much-needed win for Mariano Herron's side who had managed to win just once out of their last six appearances across all competitions. The South American giants finished the season in the sixth position in Group B of the Argentine league with 18 points from 14 matches in the second phase.

Sergio Gomez's side are currently at the top of the Group B with 22 points from 14 matches. They have a slender one-point lead over Belgrano who play their final game against Racing Club on Tuesday.
