‘Only Jesus can perform miracles’ - European Super League CEO slammed over plans to broadcast matches free of charge by La Liga president Javier Tebas

Following a ruling by the European Court of Justice deeming it "unlawful" for FIFA and UEFA to ban players from participating in a breakaway competition, A22, the brain behind the Super League, has presented a new proposal that would see three tiers with promotion and relegation. More importantly, Bernd Reichart, CEO of A22, claimed that all matches of the competition will be broadcast free of cost.

While Barcelona and Real Madrid continue to support the Super League, Tebas insisted that he is calm and reasserted that any attempts to form a new competition will be rejected.

Speaking to reporters, Tebas said: "The miracle of the loaves and fishes was done by Jesus Christ, not by Bernd Reichart (CEO of A22). There will be no Super League in the short, medium or long term. Legally, it’s not going to be possible. It’s economically unsustainable. Free football is impossible, it would be an economic failure. You can’t fool people by saying that football is going to be free. I bet 100 dinners that we will not see it in the coming years. And a thousand dinners that it won't be free."

Tebas took a step ahead and mocked Reichart for drinking until 5 in the morning before explaining that the very fundamentals of the Super League are contrary to what has been mentioned in the FIFA and UEFA charter.

He wrote on X: "To be clear, there are no doubts and some mistakenly go to reopen the bar to drink cubas until 5 in the morning as Bern Reichart CEO seems to have been tonight.

"The CJEU says that the rules for admission of FIFA and UEFA competitions are transparent, but not that they must admit the Super League. On the contrary, it points out that the criteria for admission to competitions must be transparent, objective and non-discriminatory. Principles are precisely incompatible with the Super League."

Originally involving 12 clubs, major football clubs like Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and Atletico Madrid have opted out of the proposed competition. The Premier League also released a statement rejecting the Super League. It now remains to be seen if Real Madrid and Barcelona are once again forced to eat their own words as clubs and leagues persist in rejecting the European Super League despite the European Court ruling.
