The four teams in Group B had varying amounts of success.

With the World Cup just weeks away, the September international window was the last chance for teams to fine tune before turning their focus towards Qatar.

For the U.S. men's national team, that meant a pair of friendlies against Japan and Saudi Arabia, two teams that will also be present at the World Cup in November.

But the rest of the USMNT's Group B competition also took the field, with England and Wales in Nations League action while Iran took the field for a pair of high-profile friendlies.

Here's a closer look at how each of Group B's four teams fared:

  • Pulisic USMNT 2022

How did the USMNT do in the September window?

It was a frustrating window for the USMNT, who certainly didn't provide many reasons for optimism during their pair of games.

They were outclassed in a 2-0 loss to Japan that was certainly one of the worst performances of the Gregg Berhalter era. It was a match where few could hold their heads high after.

And against Saudi Arabia, they were slightly better, but ever so slightly. It wasn't enough to win the game, or score a goal for that matter, in their final pre-World Cup audition.

How did England do in the September window?

It's safe to say that things could be going better with England as Gareth Southgate's side marches towards the World Cup.

England suffered relegation from Nations League A, having failed to win any of their six matches against the likes of Hungary, Germany and Italy.

The Three Lions were stifled by the Italians in a Euro 2020 final rematch in their first match of the window. Italy, who won't be heading to the World Cup this fall after crashing out of World Cup qualifying, finished atop the group thanks to a 1-0 win over England with Giacomo Raspadori scoring the goal.

And, in England's second match, the Harry Maguire show was on full display in a match that proved very entertaining for the neutral. In a match that featured six goals in the second half, England were forced to settle for a 3-3 draw with Germany as Luke Shaw, Mason Mount and Harry Kane found the back of the net.

  • Ramsey Wales 2022

How did Wales do in the September window?

Wales' struggles continued as they suffered relegation from Nations League A with just one point in six games.

That point didn't come this window as Gareth Bale and co. sputtered to two losses against fellow World Cup teams.

The first was a 2-1 defeat to Belgium with Kevin De Bruyne and Michy Batshuayi getting on the scoresheet.

And the second defeat came via Charlotte FC star Karol Swiderski, who scored the lone goal in Poland's 1-0 win.

  • Iran Senegal 2022

How did Iran do in the September window?

Perhaps the only Group B team that will feel good about how they performed this month.

Iran started the window with a 1-0 win over Uruguay, even if the South American powerhouses weren't quite at full strength.

And then Iran followed it up with a 1-1 draw with another World Cup-bound team, Senegal, who, just earlier this year, were crowned as African champions.
