Duncan Ferguson reveals regret over Rangers move as he admits he made Ibrox move too soon

Ferguson has admitted that he joined Rangers too early in his career. The former Scotland international moved to Ibrox for £4 million in 1993, then a British record, but struggled to make an impact and was sold to Everton a year later.

Ferguson arrived at Rangers with a big price tag and even bigger expectations but was unable to cope with the intense scrutiny that came with playing for the Glasgow giants. His spell was ill-fated, as he was banned for 12 games upon arrival after a headbutt against Raith Rovers, for which he would eventually serve prison time.

He told Stick To Football: "I wasn't ready for Rangers. I should have stayed at Dundee United for another 12 months - I was desperate to leave.

"I went down to Leeds and spoke to them. They wanted me. I spoke to Howard Wilkinson and he was a very nice man, a lovely guy and a great coach, but he put me to sleep! I wanted to play for Rangers.

"I went to Rangers and, to this day, I don't know my salary. I don't know what I signed for. I've never got a clue!"

Ferguson is currently out of work but is hoping to make a return to coaching. The former striker has been working towards his badges and is eager to get back into the dugout.
