Douglas Luiz set for Premier League return? Juventus outcast flirts with Newcastle and Nottingham Forest as struggling midfielder seeks way out of miserable Serie A spell

After only a year in the Italian league, the midfielder sees himself out of favour under head coach Igor Tudor. New general manager of Juventus Damien Comolli is also not in favour of keeping the Brazilian beyond the 2024-25 campaign. As per reports by Tuttosport, Luiz is leaning towards an exit from the Serie A club and wants to return to England. Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United are among some of the clubs showing interest in signing the Brazilian.

Luiz's transfer from Aston Villa to Juventus was backed by his impressive season in England in which he scored 10 goals and provided as many assists in 53 games for the club. Luiz went on to sign for the Serie A club for €50 million ($57m/£42) in 2024. However, the Brazilian wasn't able to hit the same form for Juve producing no goals or assists and only playing 832 minutes for the club. Comolli feels the player does not put in enough effort with little to no running and even less work-rate during chases.

Juventus reportedly are interested in Newcastle's Sandro Tonali. The ex-Milan midfielder has been excellent for the Magpies for the time he has been on-field for them. However, it would take more than just Luiz going the other way for Juve to get their hands on the Italian.

The Italian side clinched the Champions League spot at the very end of the season. The Serie A club doesn't want to repeat their mistake and hence are in the transfer market early but are facing stiff competitions for their target players. They appreciate Antony and wanted to bring him to Turin in the 2024 winter transfer window but weren't able to. However, now, they face stiff competition from Real Betis and will also have to shell more given Antony's resurgence in form.
