'Do I really love this game anymore?' - Ex-USWNT boss Vlatko Andonovski opens up on struggles after 2023 World Cup failure as he reveals he still hasn't watched Netflix documentary

Andonovski endured four difficult years at the helm for the USWNT. He led the reigning world champions to a bronze medal in the 2020 Olympics, and suffered a shock last 16 exit to Sweden at the 2023 Women's World Cup.

In a wide-ranging interview with The Athletic, Andonovski opened up on the aftermath of resigning from his post: "There was a moment there that I was like, ‘Do I really love this game anymore?'"

The head coach also admitted that he had no regrets during his time in the role: "I’m not thankful for just the experience. I’m very thankful for the players. I cannot say one bad thing about any player in four years. Obviously, there’s disagreements or whatever, but they were so respectful, kind, and nice to me. There is not one negative thing I can say. And on top of that, I really enjoyed the experience because I think that I became a better coach."

Andonovski admitted that he is able to connect to his new KC Current squad, after the NWSL side endured a difficult 2023 campaign: "The state that the players are in, I can relate to it. I mean, let’s be realistic. We both had a crappy year and I know how I feel about it. So I (checked) that they had the same feeling like, ‘You know what? You had a crappy year. OK, I did too. It was tough for me. I know it was tough for you. You hated the last three months, I did too."

Andonovski was featured in the immensely popular Netflix documentary 'Under Pressure', which took a deep dive into the USWNT's unsuccessful campaign. However, he claims that he did not watch the mini series, which painted a mixed picture of his time at the helm.

Andonovski has since assumed the dual role of head coach and sporting director for a struggling KC Current unit. The NWSL side finished 11th in 2023.
