  • WHAT HAPPENED?

After missing out on signing Spain's Euro 2024 hero Nico Williams, Barcelona turned their attention towards compatriot Olmo and finally signed the attacking midfielder for a massive €55m (£46m) upfront and €7m (£5m) in add-ons. It was reported at that time that Olmo had penned a six-year deal which would keep him at the club until 2030.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

However, Mundo Deportivo now report that the Catalan club had included a clause in the player's contract under which he will be registered only for the first season with the team. The 26-year-old had initially missed a couple of games due to the club's failure to register him in line with La Liga's strict salary rules, but once Andreas Christensen picked up a long-term injury, Olmo was added to the roster.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

The report adds that a second clause was also added to his contract which allowed the club to register him for the first six months, but if La Blaugrana fail to register Olmo for the second half of the 2024-25 campaign, he could be allowed to leave as a free agent. Barca, however, remain confident that they will be able to register him in the new year. They have a fresh agreement in place with Nike and are also planning to bring in more commercial income.
