‘Cristiano Ronaldo has to go to America’ – CR7 told to reunite with Lionel Messi in MLS by ex-Man Utd team-mate as Portuguese icon sees contract run down in Saudi Pro League at Al-Nassr

Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo is seeing questions asked of his future as his record-breaking contract in the Saudi Pro League at Al-Nassr runs down. If no extension is agreed there, then the evergreen frontman will become a free agent in the summer of 2025.

Argentine icon Messi moved to the United States when finding himself in a similar situation back in 2023 and savoured Supporters’ Shield and MVP glory with Inter Miami in 2024. He is under contract in Florida for another 12 months.

Ronaldo’s former Manchester United team-mate Wes Brown believes that CR7 should go chasing the American dream and take in one last dance with Messi. He has told The Sports Daily: “Cristiano Ronaldo has to go to America, especially given that Lionel Messi is there as well. I’ve seen Ronaldo play a few times and it’s been a good standard, he is scoring goals and looking so fit for his age, still sprinting at 40. He wants to play for as long as he can and he’s a player who can hand pick where he wants to play next.

“He won’t hang his boots up anytime soon and will keep breaking records. He has been to a few places now and I’d love to see him add America to the list. He has been scoring more goals than Messi of late and it would be great to see them go head-to-head again.”

Messi registered 23 goals for Inter Miami last season across all competitions, while Ronaldo hit 50 for Al-Nassr in 2023-24 and is already up to 16 in the current campaign. He has expressed a desire to play on well beyond his 40th birthday on February 5, with it his intention to reach 1,000 career goals.
