Chivas’ Alan Mozo set to undergo surgery for meniscus injury, likely out for Apertura 2025

Chivas’ Apertura 2025 campaign has already been far from ideal, and the outlook just got bleaker ahead of this weekend’s Clásico Nacional against Club América.

Head coach Gabriel Milito received a major setback as right back Alan Mozo suffered a meniscus injury during the weekend friendly against León in Chicago. The 27-year-old will require surgery and is expected to miss the rest of the tournament.

The timing could not be worse for El Rebaño Sagrado, who sit 16th in the table with only four points. While the FIFA break provided recovery time for Omar Govea and Richard Ledezma, the squad now adds Mozo’s absence to its growing list of challenges.

Chivas’ struggles against América have only grown since André Jardine took over as head coach of Las Águilas. The Brazilian manager oversaw his first Clásico Nacional in Matchday 8 of the Apertura 2023, and since then he has faced Guadalajara 10 times in Liga MX play.

The record speaks for itself: five victories and three draws. Jardine remains unbeaten against Chivas in domestic competition, a streak that adds extra weight heading into Saturday’s showdown.

Chivas will visit Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes this Saturday for the 262nd edition of the Clásico Nacional. América, chasing their 100th all-time win over their rivals, will look to add to Chivas’ woes, while the Guadalajara side aim for their 81st victory in the historic matchup.
