Bayern Munich play the long game! Bundesliga giants target interim manager to replace Thomas Tuchel as they wait for Xabi Alonso or even Jurgen Klopp, with experienced coach emerging as option

The Bundesliga giants were linked with a move for Xabi Alonso and Julian Nagelsmann after it was made public that Thomas Tuchel would leave the club at the end of the current season. However, Alonso decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen while Germany boss Nagelsmann agreed to sign a new deal with DFB.

According to Kicker, the Bavarian club are now considering appointing an interim manager as they plan to wait for Alonso or Jurgen Klopp to be available next year. They have reportedly prepared a shortlist of managers who could join the club on a short-term deal. The list includes names like former Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre and ex-German and Bayern boss Hansi Flick.

Bayern also approached Zinedine Zidane to take charge of the club but the Frenchman reportedly turned down the offer as he prefers to join Manchester United over the former German champions.

Tuchel's side, who are on a roll at the moment after registering back-to-back wins over Arsenal and Union Berlin, will be next seen in action in the Bundesliga on Saturday as they host Eintracht Frankfurt.
