‘Things aren’t going well’ – Bayern legend gives his verdict on Harry Kane’s ‘crisis’ ahead of Champions League clash with Inter

Kane was criticised by a section of German media as he failed to score in the club's 2-2 draw against Borussia Dortmund last weekend. He also failed to find the back of the net in Bayern's 2-1 Champions League quarter-final first-leg defeat to Inter. Ex-Germany international Nils Petersen expressed his concern over the striker's goal drought as he felt that the England captain was suffering a form crisis.

Ex-World Cup-winning Germany captain Matthaus, however, is not concerned with Kane's sudden dip in form as he believes that the 31-year-old will find his scoring boots soon. Despite all the criticism, the former Spurs forward remains the Bundesliga's top scorer with 23 goals. He has scored 34 times in 41 games this season in all competitions.

In his column for Sky Sports Germany, Matthaus wrote: "They showed last week in Munich that they were the better team. Their shortcoming – similar to the classic against Dortmund – was their ability to capitalize on opportunities. If they do that, FC Bayern can turn a one-goal deficit around at any point.

"In the first leg, only a few minor things were missing. Harry Kane hit the post; things aren't going well for him, but I wouldn't call it a crisis. Kane knows where the goal is, and he'll score again. Hopefully for Bayern on Wednesday. I'm predicting a 3-1 win after extra time."

The Bavarian club will hope to overturn the one-goal deficit against Inter on Wednesday to book their berth in the Champions League last-four stage.
