    WHAT ALEXI LALAS SAID

He posted on social media platform X saying "I thought it was a bad performance and a good result. It’s a #USWNT still in transition that lacks ruthlessness, direction, and identity. But winning is much better than losing….in my professional opinion."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

The USWNT won five of their six games during the CONCACAF W Gold Cup, with their only loss coming during the group stage to Mexico. They were exposed during the match and their direct North American rivals dominated every aspect of the match. The areas of improvement Lalas suggests were likely all brought to light in that contest.

However, they were resilient and overcame adversity in the semi-finals against Mexico and then stunned in the final against Brazil.
