Atletico Madrid open Mason Greenwood transfer talks as Diego Simeone's side aim to beat Barcelona in race for Man Utd outcast

The 22-year-old forward is currently in Spain enjoying a loan spell at Getafe. He has caught the eye since being cleared to resume a professional career that was put on hold in January 2022. Greenwood was <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/man-utd-mason-greenwood-cleared-all-charges-attempted-rape-assault-case/blt667fec4a13dfc50d" target="_blank">cleared of attempted rape, assault and coercive and controlling behaviour charges</a> in February 2023.

WHAT HAPPENED?

He has registered five goals and four assists for Getafe this season, bringing him to the attention of leading clubs in La Liga. With there <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/revealed-when-man-utd-make-decision-mason-greenwood-why-no-future-call-made-getafe-loanee/blt42188c14905ccbcd" target="_blank">seemingly no way back for Greenwood at Old Trafford</a>, despite working on a contract until 2025, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/can-mason-greenwood-leave-man-utd-permanent-january-transfer-getafe/blt993f55d67caab9d4" target="_blank">a permanent transfer is expected to be completed in the summer of 2024</a>.
