    WHAT HAPPENED?

Calafiori has been the subject of a lot of transfer interest this summer and Arsenal had been one of the clubs involved. The Gunners quickly became the top runner for the Italian's signature and agreed to Bologna's asking price. However, the deal is reportedly stalling as per Sky Sport Italia as the Rossoblu are looking to improve the conditions of the deal.

  • THE EXPLANATION

As per the report, Arsenal reached the €50m asking price by putting up a deal worth €40m (£34m/$44m) plus €10m (£8m/$11m) add-ons. This isn't something that Bologna are ready to accept and they are looking to increase the fixed sum and lower the add-ons in the deal. At the same time, Bologna are also looking to include a sell-on clause in the deal, something Calafiori’s former club, Basel, did. They retain a percentage between 40-50 per cent of Calafiori’s next sale.

Arsenal are currently said to be hesitant to add a future sell-on clause in their deal with Bologna but they remain the front-runners to sign the Italian defender who is on the back of a very successful season in the Serie A as a Thiago Motta-led Bologna finished fifth.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR ARSENAL?

The Gunners will be hopeful of completing Calafiori's signing before their first pre-season clash of the season against Bournemouth in Los Angeles during the United States tour on July 24.
