Videos posted on social media have shown groups of Gunners supporters, considered to be the Ashburton Army group, letting off fireworks in the area surrounding the Marriott Hotel in Waltham Abbey. Those events played out at around 2am, in the belief that Pep Guardiola’s squad were inside said building.

Ashburton Army posted the message: “Oh, man, I had a great night’s sleep. Hope you all did as well.” Their intention was to keep the City squad awake ahead of a crucial clash with Tottenham on Tuesday, with Arsenal needing their north London neighbours to do them a favour in that contest.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

It is, however, being reported that City spent the night in Manchester before travelling down to the English capital on Tuesday morning. As a result, the firework display put on by Arsenal followers only served to annoy innocent visitors to the Marriott Hotel.

  • WHAT NEXT?

While their plan may not have paid off, Arsenal will be hoping to see City put in a lethargic performance against Spurs. If the reigning champions were to drop points in their latest outing, then the Gunners would head into the final day of the season boasting a narrow advantage at the top of the table - courtesy of their superior goal difference.
