  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    In January, it was reported that the Gunners were in advanced talks with Real Sociedad over sealing a transfer for Zubimendi in the summer. However, last month fresh reports emerged that Real Madrid have joined the transfer race and are determined to seal a €60 million (£51m/$68m) move for the Spanish midfielder.

    WHAT HAS BEEN SAID

    The Athletic's David Ornstein now reports that the Gunners are confident that Zubimendi will arrive in north London in the upcoming summer transfer window. The journalist said: "They’ll be adding to the midfield with the arrival of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. Arsenal are acting internally as if that is a done deal."

    Earlier on Wednesday, The Athletic reported that Thomas Partey is in talks with the Gunners over extending his contract beyond this summer. The midfielder looked set to run down his contract and head for pastures new in the coming months, but that may change now.
