Another week off for Gio Reyna? No sign of USMNT star at Nottingham Forest training as familiar injury issues resurface during frustrating loan spell

The United States international did not form part of the Reds’ matchday plans for a controversial 1-0 defeat at home to Liverpool. He has been making the bench on a regular basis under Nuno Espirito Santo, but saw a knock rule him out of a meeting with the Premier League leaders.

Reyna has seen limited game time since moving to the City Ground from Borussia Dortmund in the winter transfer window, and that situation appears unlikely to improve any time soon. While eager to prove his worth in a relegation battle, physical ailments are holding the 21-year-old playmaker back.

Forest have released a training highlights package on their official YouTube channel, and Reyna is nowhere to be seen in that video. As the rest of the first-team squad on Trentside are put through their paces ahead of a meeting with Brighton on Sunday, Reyna looks to have been restricted to a physio session or gym work.

Reyna is due to return to Germany in the summer, with there no purchase option in his Forest deal, and will be desperate to see more minutes before an English adventure is cut short. He also needs to start proving himself to USMNT boss Gregg Berhalter ahead of the CONCACAF Nations League finals and 2024 Copa America.
