With the regular season done in most leagues and the summer fast approaching, it’s time to get ready for the most exciting part of the year.

No, we’re not talking about the World Cup, which should be plenty fun as well. Instead, we’re talking the silly season – the summer transfer window.

It is already open in England, and will be opening soon in other countries. The summer will bring rumors of new homes for players across the world, and Americans will be no exception. It will just be smoke for some of those playing abroad, but for others, there will be plenty of fire.

One American who definitely will be playing elsewhere next season is Alfredo Morales, as the former Ingolstadt midfielder will return to the Bundesliga in 2018-19 with newly promoted Fortuna Dusseldorf.

But what other Americans may be joining Morales in changing addresses this summer? Here's a list of some who could well be on the move.

  • Joe Corona Club America Pumas UNAM Liga MXGetty Images

    1Joe Corona | America

Rumors of an MLS move last year swirled around Corona, who eventually followed former Mexico manager Miguel Herrera from Tijuana to Club America. Corona was a firm member of the Aguilas rotation, but only started four Liga MX games, while appearing as a substitute 12 times. If he wants to start, Corona will probably have to move elsewhere this summer. Will an MLS team step up for his services or will Corona potentially be on the move in Liga MX once more?
  • Erik Palmer Brown USA U-20JUNG YEON-JE/AFP/Getty Images

    2Erik Palmer-Brown | Manchester City

When Erik Palmer-Brown signed with Manchester City, nobody expected the youngster to find his way into Pep Guardiola’s plans anytime soon. Palmer-Brown’s first loan after his City deal came with Belgian side KV Kortrijk. It was a mixed bag for him there, as he played in nine games, making six starts for the side.

Ideally, Palmer-Brown can do as his international team-mate Matt Miazga has done on loan and play himself into being an indispensable part of a team’s XI, while making himself worthy for a jump in competition.

  • Andrija Novakovich Telstar 05082018Socrates Images

    3Andrija Novakovich | Reading

Novakovich did exactly what he needed to do on loan from Reading – he scored goals. He bagged 22 in all competitions for Dutch second-division side Telstar, finishing second in the Eerste Divisie with 19. Novakovich proved he can score at will in a relatively weak league, but where will he get a chance to prove himself at next season? Will it be in the Eredivisie or will Reading give the 21-year-old forward a chance to battle it out for a spot in the Championship?

  • Aron Johannsson Sebastian Langkamp Werder BremenGetty Images

    4Aron Johannsson | Werder Bremen

Johannsson went from afterthought to impact substitute to injured once more in 2017-18. He’s certainly on the market as Werder Bremen sporting director Frank Baumann confirmed that in an interview with the club’s official website. Johannsson showed he can make an impact in the Bundesliga and displayed the ability to play out wide, so whether he finds a new club this summer will depend on someone believing he can stay healthy enough to perform consistently.

  • Emerson Hyndman Lys Mousset BournemouthMike Hewitt/Getty Images

    5Emerson Hyndman | Bournemouth

When Hyndman left Fulham in 2016 it was for a chance to play in the Premier League. He did do it before Fulham returned to the top flight – but unfortunately it was a grand total of one game.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe does appear to rate the midfielder and gave him his Premier League debut in the final game of the 2017-18 season. But Hyndman still only played four times total for the first team this season. The 22-year-old showed he can play in Europe with his strong spell at Rangers in 2017, and could probably start on a lower-league team. Will the lure of Premier League minutes keep him hoping the third year’s the charm at Bournemouth?

  • Geoff Cameron Stoke City pregameGetty Images

    6Geoff Cameron | Stoke City

A few months ago, Cameron stated his desire to remain in England professionally. A decrease in playing time and a relegation with Stoke City may cause those plans to change. That said, Cameron is a Premier League veteran with six seasons under his belt and had interest in January. It would not be surprising to see another Premier League team take a chance on him, despite the fact he will be 33 in July. If not, MLS could beckon and he would help quite a few teams' back lines – either by playing center back or shielding the defense as a defensive midfielder.

  • Bobby Wood HamburgStuart Franklin/Bongarts/Getty Images

    7Bobby Wood | Hamburg

Last summer Wood reportedly had the interest of bigger clubs than Hamburg. After a terrible second campaign in the Bundesliga, that’s unlikely this time around. The now-relegated club would probably like to move on from Wood, but will there be any takers of his contract, which is reportedly around €2 million? If Wood does remain he could do well, having scored 17 goals in the 2.Bundesliga in 2015-16 with Union Berlin.

  • Julian Green Greuther FurthAndreas Schlichter/Bongarts/Getty Images

    8Julian Green | Stuttgart

Green turned himself into a regular for the first time in his career on loan this season at Greuther Furth, and scored the goal that kept the club in the 2.Bundesliga. However, he also only scored three times all season, which is unlikely to earn him time at parent club Stuttgart. Carlo Ancelotti previously said Green was best suited for the middle, and Green agrees, but will a team with a better attack than Greuther Furth give the slight-framed attacker a chance there?

  • Matt Miazga Vitesse

    9Matt Miazga | Chelsea

Miazga has done everything he was supposed to do at Vitesse while on loan from Chelsea. Over two seasons he has fought his way into the XI, then made himself a locked-in starter every weekend. After helping Vitesse to the Europa League in both of his seasons there, Miazga seems unlikely to get a third campaign with the Eredivisie side as Chelsea probably will send him to a bigger club, either in the Netherlands or in a top-five league.

  • Christian Pulisic David Alaba Borussia Dortmund Bayern MunichGetty Images

    10Christian Pulisic | Borussia Dortmund

The shining star of U.S. soccer, the 19-year-old Pulisic is rumored to have the interest of Premier League clubs with Champions League runners-up Liverpool reportedly hot on his trail. Whether he leaves Borussia Dortmund with new manager Lucien Favre is another story, as is whether a team looking to break into the American market would sell their American star. However, if Pulisic does depart Dortmund this summer, he will obliterate the record transfer fee received for an American international of €17 million ($20m) for John Brooks last summer.
