The Three Lions take on Spain in the tournament decider on Sunday, with Gareth Southgate's side looking to go one better than their Euro 2020 final penalty shootout defeat against Italy. A win will see England claim their first ever major trophy since the 1966 World Cup.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Former Newcastle icon Shearer, who scored 30 goals in 63 games for England between 1992 and 2000, says he will be watching on from the stands as Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Co. take on the likes of Lamine Yamal and Rodri in Berlin, and he is desperate for them to get the win.

  • WHAT SHEARER SAID

"I’ll be in the stadium for the final and I’ll be fizzing and fidgeting," he wrote in a column published by The Athletic. "It might sound a bit morbid but I said to Will, my son, not too long ago, that I just want to be around when the Newcastle or England teams I so proudly represented win a f***ing trophy. Surely one isn’t too much to ask? It’s the only thing missing. Football means so much to us and I want to see the reaction. I want to see what it does to us, I want to sample it and savour it and swim in it and lose myself in it."
