AC Milan, Amorim considers a move that will spark debate: Pulisic out against Atalanta, Rabiot in the attacking midfield role

Milan, Amorim has tried Musah alongside Modric in central midfield: Pulisic could be the one left out

Three matches in a week, each a tough test.

Milan start that run tomorrow against Atalanta, then travel to Bournemouth in the Europa League and Udine in the league.

Against the Dea, coached by Maurizio Sarri, Milan will field an entirely different starting XI from the one that won away at Salzburg last Thursday.

  • Pulisic on the bench

An underwhelming display against Sassuolo and half an hour off the bench against Salzburg: Pulisic has lost momentum since his goal against Lecce before the break appeared to give him a lift. Against Atalanta, he looked set to give Ramos the right support, but today Amorim tried a starting line-up without the American international. A significant call at a delicate stage of the season.

  • Rabiot as an attacking midfielder

Rabiot will push forward alongside Cisse in attacking midfield, the surprise move Amorim is considering. In midfield, Musah and Modric will pair up centrally, with Moreira wide on the left and Chukwueze on the right to provide balance in both phases of play. Those choices would also bring back a three-man defence of Gila, De Winter and Pavlovic, as Peppe Di Stefano pointed out on Sky.
