Erik ten Hag has frozen out another proven international performer at Old Trafford – much like he did with five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo in 2022, before the Portuguese superstar saw his contract terminated and headed to Saudi Arabia with Al-Nassr as a free agent.
Getty ImagesEngland winger Sancho has not figured for United since August 26, with questions of his future first surfacing when being left out of the Red Devils’ matchday squad against Arsenal on September 3. His efforts in training were called into question at that point, and he has since been made to work away from the rest of the first-team squad.
Crisis talks have taken place, but Sancho is now expected to be on the move in the winter window. Fabrizio Romano has told his Daily Briefing podcast: “I think they [United] know at the moment that it’s not going to be a permanent transfer, that could be a loan deal with a buy option included. So, I think in January that they will be open to any opportunity of course. Of course, they would prefer a permanent transfer, that would be perfect to have their money back after what they spent on Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. But, at the moment, they know in January to find a top class club in Europe prepared to pay, and this is my opinion and not the official price, somewhere between £50m-£55m is not going to be easy. So we will have to see what happens there.”
Romano added: “At the moment, the people from Manchester United is very clear. It looks like it’s 90 per cent over between Jadon Sancho and Man United. We keep a 10 per cent because we know that anything can happen in football, but as of today, it reminds us of the situation with Cristiano Ronaldo one year ago. The feeling is that Jadon has to find a new club in the January transfer window.”
