John Obi Mikel has urged Manchester United to hand Unai Emery "the f***ing keys" and an open chequebook to tempt him away from Aston Villa. The former Chelsea midfielder would choose Emery over Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann, the two men most often linked with the job, with Michael Carrick still in charge despite leaving the Red Devils 16th in the Premier League.
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick and club captain Bruno Fernandes have reportedly held private discussions to resolve recent tensions within the dressing room. The relationship between the pair came under scrutiny after the Portuguese playmaker was left as an unused substitute during the humiliating home defeat to Bournemouth.
Tottenham Hotspur have joined a quartet of Premier League heavyweights monitoring breakout Villarreal full-back Alex Freeman following his rapid rise in Spanish football this year. The north Londoners are actively scouting long-term right-back options amid growing uncertainty over first-choice defender Pedro Porro's future beyond this campaign.
Former Manchester United playmaker Jesse Lingard has been ordered to work away from his Corinthians team-mates over the coming days after sustaining rib injuries in Brazil. The 33-year-old attacking midfielder is currently undergoing close daily monitoring by club doctors as he battles to regain full fitness for their survival push.
Paul Scholes believes Bruno Fernandes can no longer be trusted as Manchester United captain and should move to Saudi Arabia after his 'unforgivable' criticism of Michael Carrick. Fernandes questioned the manager's tactics after the 4-1 Champions League defeat at Como and was then dropped for the Bournemouth game, with Nicky Butt claiming he has jeopardised his legacy.
Julian Nagelsmann is interested in becoming Manchester United's next manager and holds a key advantage over frontrunner Eddie Howe in the race to succeed Michael Carrick. Nagelsmann would cost nothing to appoint after leaving his Germany role in July, while United would have to pay Newcastle compensation to land Howe, with Carrick set to stay on for Saturday's trip to Chelsea.
