The 32-year-old spent six months in the Premier League after joining the Hammers in January 2013, but failed to make a first-team appearance after being named among the substitutes twice and making a number outings for the Under-23 side.

Many Brazilian sides have helped Chapecoense following the tragic air disaster which took the lives of 19 of their players, with the striker's arrival from Fluminense until the end of 2017 marking the 23rd new face at the club.

"There is nothing else to talk about apart from that I am very honoured to wear Chapecoense’s shirt, for all that has happened obviously," the 32-year-old said.

"I'll do my best. My fear was to come and see players who were not committed, who came just to be able to show off in a very complicated situation that happened.

"But knowing the players that came and are here now, what I have to do is to dedicate myself and score the goals when we need them."

Paulista most recently turned out for Ponte Preta, also on loan from Fluminense, scoring 10 goals in 39 games.
