‘You never know’ – Forgotten men Paul Mullin & Ollie Palmer get Wrexham future update as promotion heroes for Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney’s side struggle for game time

Both men have made significant contributions to the Red Dragons cause across the meteoric rise that has been enjoyed under the stewardship of Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. They moved to North Wales to join a National League promotion push, and now find themselves in League One.

Mullin and Palmer have found the going tough in 2024-25. They have registered just three league goals apiece this season and have tumbled down the striking pecking order as result. It is proving difficult to earn spots in matchday squads at present.

That is partly due to the fact that Wrexham broke their transfer record when acquiring Sam Smith in January, while also bringing in one-cap England international Jay Rodriguez. That pair have been earning favour from Phil Parkinson of late.

Wrexham’s manager has, however, said of Mullin and Palmer remaining part of his plans: "We’ve just got to make sure that we get the balance of the bench right which is absolutely key for us and every day, we continue to monitor the lads and look at everyone training. Who’s looking sharp, who’s looking ready.

"The lads out of the team like Mulls and Ollie, who have both made significant contributions for us, they’re right with the group training hard every day and waiting for the moment because you never know when that moment is going to come, and you’ve got to be prepared for it as Lewis Brunt was at the weekend."

There was talk of Mullin enduring a bust-up with his boss, which has been played down, while Palmer’s father has spoken out against the lack of minutes being afforded to his son. Wrexham, who sit level on points with second-placed Wycombe in the third tier table, will be back in action on Saturday when playing host to old adversaries Stockport.
