Inter Miami chasing Boca's Weigandt
Direct replacement for DeAndre Yedlin
Potential look at how Herons would line up
WHAT HAPPENED?
According to journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, the Herons have bid for the 24-year-old defender, whose contract runs out this Spring with the Argentine powerhouse. Despite the fact that he would be available on a free transfer in a few months time, Inter Miami had made a bid for the defender as both parties look to ensure that Boca Juniors are compensated for the transfer.
The right-sided defender would be a direct replacement for former captain DeAndre Yedlin, whom they traded to FC Cincinnati on Sunday. Weigandt would slot in at right fullback, giving Herons boss Tata Martino an Argentine trio in the bottom right-corner of his 4-3-3 formation. The 23-year-old would potentially join fellow new signings Nicolas Freire and Federico Redondo in the XI, alongside Lionel Messi.
DID YOU KNOW?
With the addition of Weigandt, the Herons would have seven different Argentine players on their roster.
