Eberechi Eze's release clause IS still active! Tottenham given huge 'opportunity' to sign Crystal Palace star ahead of rivals Arsenal in £68m saga

According to The Independent, Tottenham are hoping to put together a transfer package which could see them beat north London rivals Arsenal to the signing of Eze. The Gunners have been interested in the attacking midfielder throughout the summer but have prioritised deals for the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Cristhian Mosquera, Noni Madueke and Kepa Arrizabalaga instead in a bid to enhance Mikel Arteta's squad.

Spurs are also long-term admirers of the 27-year-old, who enjoyed a superb end to the 2024-25 season, finishing with eight goals and eight assists in the Premier League alongside the triumph in the FA Cup final over Manchester City where he bagged the winner. Thomas Frank's side recently lost Maddison to an anterior cruciate ligament blow, meaning he will miss most of the upcoming campaign, and Tottenham feel the time is now to make a move for Eze before Arsenal sell enough unwanted players from their squad to finance a deal of their own.

Eze's release clause is thought to be worth £68 million ($91.9m/€78.6m) and expires on August 15, but only for this window. It was previously reported that the clause became inactive at the start of the month. Stumping up that fee would see Tottenham break their transfer record a year after Dominic Solanke arrived from Bournemouth for £65m.

Tottenham are also thought to be working on a deal for Manchester City winger Savinho, but neither the Brazilian nor Eze will arrive before Spurs face the daunting task of taking on Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night.
