'They kill off the main character!' - Ange Postecoglou admits regret at 'season three' comment with Tottenham boss wary of potential sacking

Postecoglou led Tottenham to their first silverware in 17 years earlier this week when they beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final, before appearing to confirm he was staying at the club by telling fans during the victory parade that in "all the best television series, season three is better than season two!". However, he has subsequently clarified those comments.

Postecoglou has since said: "I should have thought about it a bit more because as somebody rightly pointed out, sometimes they kill off the main character. I could be in strife there!"

It had been widely expected that Postecoglou would leave Spurs this summer after a disastrous Premier League campaign that sees them sit 17th in the table heading into the final day of the season, but the Europa League triumph has muddied the waters.

Spurs take on Brighton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium today, with the atmosphere set to be buoyant regardless of the result with the club planning to further parade the Europa League trophy. The Seagulls will give their hosts a guard of honour.
