Gonzalo Higuain says Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are “both beasts” and that any decision regarding who is better will be based purely on personal preference.

The Juventus striker has played alongside some of the world’s finest talent over the course of a distinguished career, including two of the most recognisable names in sport.

Messi & CR7 wages dwarfed by Roman

He was a team-mate of Ronaldo during his time at Real Madrid, while he has spent many years chasing down international honours with Messi and Argentina.

Higuain acknowledges that both men are at the peak of their powers and that trying to split them in terms of ability depends on what you are looking for from a talismanic figure.

He told Marca: "It's a question like [Iker] Casillas or [Gianluigi] Buffon.

“It's not difficult, it's easy to answer. They are both beasts and have each developed their own qualities and characteristics, so play with the one that makes you feel better in your own game."

Juventus unveil dramatic change to logo

Higuain is now turning out in the same side as another highly-rated forward, with Paulo Dybala drawing plenty of praise for his performances.

He has been compared to fellow Argentine Messi, but Higuain believes it is too early to be putting the 23-year-old under such pressure.

"Well, one is just starting out and the other has won everything,” he said.

“It's a comparison that doesn't come to my mind. Paulo has to be calm, he is young and has everything to be himself. He also has everything to be world class."

Many consider Dybala to already be at that level, but Higuain hopes talk of a possible move to Real Madrid in the near future will blow over and that the promising striker will heed the advice of those around him.

Dybala to snub Real & Barca for new Juve deal

"I want the great players to be with me!" he said.

"I listened to Raul and [Ruud] van Nistelrooy, so hopefully [Dybala] will listen to me. But I don't like to be heavy or invasive in private, so everyone can make their own decisions."
