Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS aim to distance Man Utd from glorious past as legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson blamed for Red Devils' current struggles

United have endured a nightmare journey in the 2024-25 campaign as they find themselves 15th in the league table after 26 matches. On Saturday, the club visited Goodison Park one last time and thanks to Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte's strikes, they managed to hold Everton to a hard-fought 2-2 draw.

The club are also facing major financial problems off the field, leading to new minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS group taking cost-cutting measures. Several employees of the club have already lost their jobs and in their upcoming meeting with the owners on Monday, 200 more employees are likely to be laid off. Earlier this season, INEOS had also ended legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson's ambassadorship as they no longer want to spend millions of pounds. The company has also reportedly blamed Ferguson for the club's current misfortune and are determined to distance United from their past glory, which is apparently weighing the current crop of players down.

A club insider told The Mirror: "INEOS want absolutely nothing to do with the past. They don’t want to hear how things were done when United were winning 13 Premier League titles and they won’t accept any suggestion that lessons can be learned from when the club’s greatest-ever manager was in charge.

"It’s all very well drawing a line under the last 12 years and saying ‘let’s move on.’ But it’s become an obsession not to mention the period when United were one of the best teams in Europe."

Ruben Amorim's side will be back in action on Wednesday as they take on Ipswich Town at Old Trafford in a Premier League clash.
