Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Avram Glazer booed by Man Utd employees angry at job cuts at 'very sombre' Europa League final screening party

When INEOS and Ratcliffe completed their minority takeover at Manchester United from the oft-criticised Glazer family, it was expected that a new era would begin at Old Trafford. However, the Red Devils have gone on to suffer their worst season in the Premier League. With finances dwindling due to a lack of performance on the field over the years, INEOS have axed jobs in the club's non-footballing staff, with over 200 employees laid off.

Earlier this year, United CEO Omar Berrada revealed that the second round of redundancies was based on qualifying for the Europa League for the next four seasons. The Red Devils' failure to win the Europa League final against Tottenham on Wednesday has now provided a point of concern for non-footballing employees of the club, and the tensions were apparent at a screening party held by the club for the final for the staff back in Manchester.

The screening party was held in Diecast, a warehouse venue in the Ancoats district in Manchester, with a crowd of over 1000 people, including employees and their family members. As per The Athletic, the mood was already grim at the venue following the comments of Berrada in February, and when Avram Glazer and Sir Ratcliffe were shown on the screen, the venue was filled with boos. The occurrence took place twice, once before the start of the match and once after the full-time whistle. The report also suggested that the mood after the match was 'very sombre'.

United's finances are set to take a massive hit this summer as they will not receive a bonus for playing European football next season which may cause more issues. Additionally, their budget for the upcoming transfer window may take a hit as well, with reports suggesting that the club may only have a transfer kitty of around £100 million before departures.
