<p>Darwin joined Liverpool in the summer of 2022 for a <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/liverpool-complete-nunez-transfer-64m-benfica/bltb9f4fc8cc1230c02" target="_blank">reported fee of £64m plus add-ons</a>, but in a recent conversation with Ian Wright <a href="https://metro.co.uk/2024/12/05/jamie-carragher-claims-liverpool-already-decided-sell-one-player-22129114/?ito=x-flow" target="_blank">on The Overlap</a>, Carragher indicated that "there is no way he has got the add-ons" due to his inconsistent performances. According to the retired England defender, Liverpool are likely to try and sell the Uruguayan next summer while he is still able to command a high transfer fee. </p><p></p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>"We said we don’t know what he is going to do, so how will the defenders?" said Carragher. "Nobody ever says that about a good player, do they? I’m not sure he will be here next season, I think Liverpool will move him on." Fellow pundit Ian Wright concurred: "I never know what is going to happen with Nunez when he goes through. I would’ve thought for that price we would have seen a lot more from him by now. It is not going to be any different to what he is now." </p><br><br>

WHAT CARRAGHER SAID

<p>Darwin Nunez has repeatedly shown <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/now-or-never-darwin-nunez-liverpool-polarising-no9-starting-opportunity-sold-next-summer/blta989e90c64931d38" target="_blank">flashes of brilliance at Liverpool</a>, which is partly what makes him such a frustrating player for the likes of Wright and Carragher. In 76 Premier League games he's scored 22 goals and registered 12 assists, a decent return but hardly prolific, and his failure to consistently produce top performances has led to him spending significant time on the sidelines this season. It doesn't seem as though Arne Slot has full <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/no-starts-62-minutes-premier-league-football-darwin-nunez-transfer-liverpool-jurgen-klopp-arne-slot/blt0c88951883e3f6e3" target="_blank">faith in his Uruguayan striker,</a> despite his evident potential.  </p><p></p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>Nunez led the line for Liverpool against Newcastle but had a disappointing night, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/liverpool-player-ratings-vs-newcastle-mohamed-salah-trent-caoimhin-kelleher/bltb189a41655f1b54f#cs26f270c3df1084e7" target="_blank">receiving a 4/10 rating</a> for his individual performance. If Slot decides to give him a chance again this weekend — when the league leaders make the short trip to Everton for<a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/merseyside-derby-alexis-mac-allister-liverpool-absent-everton/blta1f7f5689ae79c00" target="_blank"> Saturday's Merseyside derby</a> — he'll be determined to prove his worth.  </p><p></p>
