  • Klopp criticised decision to not award penalty
  • Liverpool held to 1-1 draw with Arsenal
  • Arsenal remain above Reds in the league
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Klopp was left bemused by the decision to not penalise Arsenal's captain, Martin Odegaard, for handling the ball in the box. Odegaard had slipped and, as he was falling, moved his arm in the direction of the ball in the box. Liverpool were frustrated not to be given the opportunity to score from 12 yards and may be more aggrieved to hear Arsenal's William Saliba also believed it was a penalty.

    WHAT KLOPP SAID

Unable to hide his frustration, Klopp said: "The penalty situation is a weird situation, I don't know if the ref can see it, but you look at it and I'm not sure how you can say it's not a penalty. I’m pretty sure someone will explain it to me about why it wasn’t a handball, but I don’t know how.

"I don't say the ref can see it because I have no clue where he was at that moment. But that's another question. When somebody sits in the office, how can they not come to the conclusion that it might be worth having another look at it."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Premier League is a competition of such fine margins that had Liverpool been awarded the penalty, the result and perception of the title race may well be completely different. Had Liverpool won today, they would have sat two points clear of Arsenal at the top of the league, not a point behind.

The Reds will be frustrated that Trent Alexander-Arnold missed a golden chance to score a winner, but given how well Arsenal performed defensively, a draw was probably the fair result.
