Government Secondary School made it two wins out of two successive games with a 2-1 win against Government Secondary School at the Government Day Technical College field.

Mohammed Umar's brace helped the Yobe boys’ secure maximum points against the stubborn Adamawa side to boost their quest of reaching the national finals.

Umar had fired GSS, Borno ahead inside the opening five minutes but Wuspia Miya equalized 10 minutes to the break before Umar recovered the lead on the brink.

On return from recess, several efforts made by the Yola side to find a leveler yielded no result before they scored five minutes from regulation time but their goal was ruled for an offside.

The Maiduguri side held on till the blast of the whistle to seal the victory which hands them six points from two matches, while Adamawa remains without a point from two matches.

TARABA 1-0 GOMBE

Having secured opening day victory without kicking a ball, Government Secondary School of Taraba State maintained their hundred percent start after a 1-0 win over Government Secondary School, Gombe State on Friday.

Coming into the contest, the Akkoyel based boys had earlier stunned Borno to earn winning start but crumbled against the Jalingo side no thanks to Abdulhamid Muhammad’s solitary effort.

The victory keeps Taraba’s qualification bid alive as they now boast of six points from two matches, while the losing Gombe boys only have three points from two.

ADAMAWA 1-1 BORNO

Government Secondary School, Adamawa failed to secure their first win of the competition as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Government Secondary School, Borno at the same venue.

Before the encounter, both sides were yet to celebrate a win after two opening games but only settled to share the spoils after Abubakar Anas’ opener for Adamawa was canceled out by Hassan Abu-Furera’s header.

From a close range, Anas calmly slot home a brilliant pass to put the Yola side in front in the first but, but Abu-Furera lifted above his marker to head home an equalizer in the second half.

The draw means both Adamawa and Borno have mathematically crashed out of the competition after managing just a point each from three games so far.
