Why Wrexham expect more departures in summer transfer window – with Phil Parkinson working with Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney to build another promotion-winning squad

The Red Dragons intend to enter the 2024-25 campaign with enough quality at their disposal to mount another promotion push in League One. Reinforcements are going to be required, having moved rapidly from the National League to the third tier of English football.

Wrexham will be limited to a 22-man group when competitive action resumes – with that list not including goalkeepers or players under the age of 21 at the start of the calendar year. Parkinson has 20 of those spots filled at present, while waiting to discover whether Steven Fletcher will agree a new contract.

The plan is to bring in more than one player, and that means space needs to be freed up in congested ranks. Parkinson accepts as much and has told The Leader of possible movement in and out of SToK Racecourse: “If we bring players in over the 22 then obviously there will be an opportunity for maybe one or two lads to go out on loan. But that probably won't happen until we get back for pre-season. As everybody knows, it is just getting the squad size right with enough cover in it. We will try and get that and get the kind of quality throughout the squad; not just in the top 12 or 13 players but deeper than that which helps you as the season goes on.”

Co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will be on hand to provide assistance throughout the squad-building process, with the Hollywood stars continuing to make the funds available that allow Wrexham to be competitive – while also growing the club’s global appeal through their popular documentary series and lucrative commercial partnerships.
