  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The England squad along with Southgate have reached Germany where they are all set to compete in Euro 2024. WHAT GARETH SOUTHGATE SAID

Speaking to BILD, he said: "If we don’t win, I probably won’t be here anymore. So maybe it is the last chance. I think around half the national coaches leave after a tournament – that’s the nature of international football.

"I’ve been here almost eight years now and we’ve come close. You can’t constantly put yourself in front of the public and say, ‘A little more please,’ as at some point people lose faith. If we want to be a great team and I want to be a top coach, you must deliver in big moments."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Telegraph now reports that amid speculation over the future of the 53-year-old, the FA are yet to begin the search for his replacement, just in case he does depart. They reportedly want Southgate to continue as England's head coach beyond his current deal, which expires in December 2024. The manager, however, has refused to speak about his next step decisively ahead of the Euros amid interest from Premier League giants Manchester United.

    WHAT NEXT FOR ENGLAND?

The Telegraph report further claimed that names like Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Graham Potter and Eddie Howe are being considered by the FA as replacements for Southgate if he leaves the job this summer. In the meantime, the Three Lions kick off their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia on Sunday.
