The 29-year-old had been hoping to enter a Copa America tournament on home soil this summer with a regular role nailed down at club level. A transfer from Arsenal to the City Ground in 2023 was intended to aid that cause.

Turner did, however, pay the price for some costly errors in 2023-24, with Forest taking to dropping him down their pecking order. As a result, the former New England Revolution star has linked up with his country with no minutes under his belt since February 28.

The United States international is, however, a positive character and retains unshakable belief in his own ability. He is hoping that will be enough to retain the No.1 spot in Gregg Berhalter’s plans, with some impressive performances being put in on the training ground.

A Copa America in the States will get underway on June 20, with the USMNT opening their campaign three days later against Bolivia. Turner is eager to figure in that contest, while friendly outings against Colombia and Brazil will present opportunities in which to add to a collection of 39 senior caps.
