  • WHAT SERGIO RAMOS SAID

That became clear when aiming a wild boot at rival Guillermo Martinez during the latter stages of Monterrey’s 3-1 win over Pumas. Ramos has been able to see the funny side of his dismissal, posting on social media: "It was obvious I couldn’t leave this league without a red card."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Pumas were, however, less than impressed, with head coach Efrain Juarez telling reporters: “Whatever his name, he has to be an example. If someone from our country had done that, they’d be out from the 20th minute, not the 90th. That bothers me. We must protect our football. He elbowed a kid who just the day before said he was his idol.”

    WHAT NEXT?

Ramos, who is accustomed to serving suspensions, will now be banned for Monterrey’s upcoming fixtures. He is only tied to a one-year contract in Mexico, although that deal does include the option for an extension if the Real icon wants to follow in the footsteps of former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo and play on into his 40s.
