USMNT's Patrick Agyemang named MLS Player of the Matchday after brace in Charlotte FC’s 3-2 win

U.S. international Patrick Agyemang delivered a standout performance for Charlotte FC, scoring two goals in a five-minute span in the first half to help his team overcome an early deficit and secure a 3-2 victory over Columbus Crew. His match-winning contribution earned him the MLS Player of the Matchday award, the highest individual recognition given by the league for weekly performances. Not only that, Agyemang became just the second player in Charlotte FC history to record multiple multi-goal games, joining former striker Karol Świderski in this exclusive club.

It has been a strong week for Agyemang, who was also recently called into Mauricio Pochettino's 2025 Gold Cup squad.

Agyemang continues to establish himself as one of Charlotte's most valuable offensive weapons, now ranking as the club's second all-time leading scorer with 16 goals, trailing only Świderski's 28. His recent form has been particularly impressive, with six goal contributions in his last six outings across all competitions, culminating in this MLS Player of the Matchday award.

The 24-year-old has five goals in 14 appearances this season.

After securing the MLS Player of the Matchday award, Agyemang and Charlotte FC now face a challenging schedule, with five consecutive away matches ahead. That run starts with a trip to the Sports Illustrated Stadium to face the New York Red Bulls on May 28, which is quickly followed by a clash against Toronto FC on May 31.
