Trouble for Tottenham? Real Madrid eyeing move for star Spurs centre-back Cristian Romero

The Argentina international joined Tottenham from Atalanta in August 2021 for a fee in the region of £42 million ($53.8m) and since then he has earned a reputation as one of the Premier League's best centre-backs. However, Spurs may face a fight to hold onto the 26-year-old as Los Blancos are keeping tabs on him, reports ESPN.

While Spurs shipped 61 goals last season in the Premier League, they would, arguably, have conceded a lot more without Romero in their backline. It would be a big blow to Ange Postecoglou's men to lose someone of his quality but the lure of Madrid may be too tempting an offer, should one arise, to turn down.

Since making his Tottenham debut in August 2021, Romero has made 98 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals and bagging one assist. Of those 98 matches, he has started 96 of them - highlighting his importance to the team.

While Tottenham and Real Madrid fans may anxiously await to see where this transfer rumour goes next, Romero could feature for Argentina in their final warm-up game against Guatemala on Friday night before the Copa America gets underway next week.
