‘Still seething’ – Man Utd players ‘fuming’ at David de Gea dumping after error-strewn start to life at Old Trafford from £47m goalkeeper Andre Onana

The Red Devils decided that the summer of 2023 was the perfect time in which to freshen up their goalkeeping department. With long-serving De Gea reaching the end of his contract, the four-time Player of the Year at Old Trafford was released as a free agent.

De Gea had been in Manchester for 12 years, taking in 545 appearances and breaking the club’s clean sheet record. He was, however, allowed to move on as £47 million ($58m) was invested in snapping up Cameroon international Onana from Inter.

Onana has endured an error-strewn start to life with the Premier League giants – with another costly error made in a 4-3 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League – and The Sun claims that several members of United’s squad are “fuming” at the decision to let De Gea go.

United have made their worst start to a Premier League season – collecting just six points from five games – and Onana has conceded 14 goals through six appearances. De Gea, meanwhile, remains a free agent despite his pedigree and still being just 32 years of age.
