  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Boehly was at Stamford Bridge on Sunday to see Chelsea open up their Premier League season with a 2-0 defeat to champions Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. Goals from Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic ensured it was a disappointing start to new manager Enzo Maresca's tenure at the club. Yet Boehly did not even stay until the end, as footage emerged of the American heading out of his seat and into his suite after City's second goal flew in.

  • WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING

Boehly's actions did not sit well with supporters. Football fan @StretfordLaughs posted a video of Boehly making a swift exit with the words: "Todd Boehly on his way to sign [Joao] Felix, [Victor] Osimhen, [Federico] Chiesa, [Diego] Maradona and Pele."

Another supporter @BrunoFernanshh shared the same footage and wrote simply: "This is embarrassing as an owner."

Meanwhile, @DrunkGreaIish came up with another theory: "Todd Boehly just gone to search for more players on http://Transfermarket.com."

And @ODDSbible also felt the Chelsea chief was off shopping, writing on X: "Todd Boehly on his way to spend another £500m before the transfer window closes."

Boehly's motives were also questioned by @your_7th_sin who was also critical of the Chelsea owner, posting on X: "He’s just using the Chelsea team as business nothing else."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Boehly has invested heavily in his squad this summer in a rather baffling summer. The American has brought in a host of new signings to leave the Blues with an incredible 42 players on their books. Maresca has also confirmed he wants more players before the window closes at the end of the month. Boehly's actions have certainly come under scrutiny, with former defender William Gallas savagely branding Chelsea an "average" club under their American co-owner.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHELSEA

Chelsea look set for a busy end to the transfer window. The Blues continue to be linked with several stars including Atletico Madrid's Joao Felix and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. However, exits will also be needed with Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah among the players being linked with transfers.
