‘Serie A suits Christian Pulisic better’ - Ruud Gullit explains why USMNT star is thriving at AC Milan after transfer away from Chelsea

The United States international bid farewell to the Premier League during the summer of 2023 after four years at Stamford Bridge. He made history when winning the Champions League during that spell in west London, but departed having never truly convinced in England.

Pulisic has gone on to register five goals through 18 appearances for Milan, with former Rossoneri and Chelsea star Gullit telling AS of why the 25-year-old forward has rediscovered his spark: “The Premier League is a high-tempo competition. The build-up for a lot of Italian teams is a little bit slower, it’s more tactical, more on technique and things like that. It’s hard, plus the Italian defenders are not easy to beat. The style of play suits [Pulisic] better… Maybe he has found a way to play his game. Maybe he is enjoying it at the moment.”

While Pulisic has made a bright start to life in Italy, Milan have lacked consistency as a collective and Gullit added that a key man for the USMNT “has come into a team that is also struggling. It’s easy to win but to remain at the top is tough and that is the same thing with Milan - it’s hard.”

Milan suffered a dramatic 3-2 defeat against Atalanta in their last Serie A outing – as Pulisic played the full 90 minutes alongside international team-mate Yunus Musah – and pressure continues to build on head coach Stefano Pioli as his side sit third in the table and sweat on progress to the last-16 of the Champions League.
