Police open investigation into Wrexham fans allegedly throwing 'four vapes and cigarette lighters' at Accrington Stanley's goalkeeper as Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney's side face potential punishment

The Red Dragons were at Wham Stadium to face Stanley in their latest League Two fixture. Phil Parkinson’s side suffered a 2-0 defeat on the day, with a forgettable performance from the Welsh outfit – which was put in amid a ticket price storm - including a missed penalty from star striker Paul Mullin.

Co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were watching on from afar, as they took in a trip to the historic Formula 1 Grand Prix in Las Vegas, and they may have to contend with punishments handed out as a result of unruly behaviour in the stands.

It is alleged that certain individuals among the Wrexham fan base threw “four vapes and cigarette lighters” at Accrington keeper Jon McCracken towards the end of a fourth tier fixture in Lancashire – with the game having to be stopped for 10 minutes.

McCracken avoided injury, but local police are now looking into the incident – with it suggested that the missiles in question came from the lower stands in the Coppice End, which houses the away support. Chief Superintendent Melita Worswick, who oversaw policing of the game, has said: “A football match should be a family-friendly event and this type of incident, where items have been thrown at a player, is utterly unacceptable. We are asking anybody who can help our enquiries to get in touch. Perhaps you know who threw the items, or perhaps you caught the offender or offenders on mobile phone footage. Whatever you know, please get in touch.”

Defeat for Wrexham – who had been on an 11-game unbeaten run in all competitions – has dropped them to fourth in the League Two table. They will be back at SToK Racecourse on Saturday when playing host to Morecambe.
