    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Haaland has hit 111 goals for City through 126 appearances, helping them to domestic trophies and a Champions League crown. Pep Guardiola’s side do, however, have an 115-charge Financial Fair Play case hanging over them, with any punishments there yet to be determined.

  • WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING

It has been suggested that City would be dumped out of the English top-flight, or hit with a points penalty that leads to relegation, and @TopGunnerAli has responded to the Haaland contract news by saying: "He’ll play in the championship for 9 years."

On a similar theme, @AFCMinded said: "9 year deal is insane. What type of wage and bonus' will be be on, because he isn't getting a payrise now for 9 years! From City POV it's great because he can't go anywhere when they get relegated."

@thisistolu went on to say of a potential stint in the second tier: "2034? By the time his contract ends, I’ll have grandkids, and they’ll still be watching him pad his stats against Burnley!"

    DID YOU KNOW?

Others have been quick to air their surprise, given the FFP uncertainty in Manchester, with @UTDgeezer saying: "What does this mean about the charges then? He must be aware of something we’re not . That’s your life and career dedicated to this tiny Yoyo club."

@thekingadjor said: "I’m pretty sure they’re going to get a transfer ban soon. The signings they’re making and now this for Haaland."

Taking things in a slightly different direction, @ibrahimkuso1982 said of Haaland now having Premier League history in his sights: "That Alan Shearer record is already in shreds because he will break it and create a new one for other forwards to emulate."

  • WHAT NEXT?

The contract that Haaland signed when moving to England was due to run until 2027. Those terms have now been extended, with Pep Guardiola having also committed his immediate future to the City cause.
