During a press conference ahead of the UEFA Nations League semi-final, the Spanish midfielder Pedri has confirmed that he rejected an offer from Bayern back in 2020, insisting his "unconditional love" for Barcelona meant that he was never going to leave. The 22-year-old, now a Ballon d'Or nominee and Nations League finalist, is enjoying a standout year for both Barcelona and his country.
Getty Images SportPedri has played a key role in Barca’s domestic treble, emerging as one of the game’s premier midfielders with six goals and nine assists in 2024-2025. As the LaLiga champions undergo a rebuild under Hansi Flick, the same coach who once wanted to sign him at Bayern, Pedri’s decision now looks even more significant.
Pedri said: "It's true that Bayern Munich was interested in me, but my love for Barca was unconditional. It was very difficult to leave Barca, because it's the club of my dreams."
Now a key figure for both club and country, he also touched on being a candidate for the prestigious Ballon d'Or, adding: "It's an honour for me to be among the candidates, but I'm saving my vote for when this is all over."
"I don't see individual awards much, but since Rodri won the Ballon d'Or, everything is different. Before, they didn't focus on midfielders. Titles with the national team have a lot of weight and that has changed the perception."
Pedri is the youngest Barcelona player to reach 200 appearances for the Blaugrana, breaking Lionel Messi's record by achieving the milestone at 22 years and 171 days.

A win would see them challenge Portugal in the final on 8th June for another major trophy, potentially sealing a perfect season for the starlet. Beyond that, his focus will return to Barcelona, where he’s expected to be a cornerstone of Flick’s new era.
