Former MLS first-rounder, unofficial NFL record holder?

Brandon Aubrey's decision to reinvent himself as an NFL kicker after a brief soccer career continues to pay off. The 29-year-old launched a 66-yard field goal in the Dallas Cowboys' preseason game against the Oakland Raiders, a 27-12 win.

The distance tied an NFL record, but because it occurred in the preseason, it won't be added to the league's official books. Still, it's an impressive feat for the former high school soccer standout who struggled to find his footing in MLS after being drafted by Toronto FC.

  • WHAT AUBREY SAID?

"You can feel it off your foot. It feels like nothing is quite there," Aubrey said of the booming kick, via DallasCowboys.com. "It feels like nothing is there, it has no resistance. It pops off your foot. It stays on your foot for like a half a second and then it just flies. Yeah, I was pretty sure [I made it].

I had to watch it for a couple of seconds to make sure it didn't hook with the power fade. Hit it nice and pure, hit it straight. After about a second, I knew it was in."
