  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Gunners have made just two signings this summer. They signed goalkeeper David Raya on a permanent basis from Brentford after the Spaniard's impressive season on loan in north London last term. They then brought in left-back Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna in a deal worth a reported £42 million ($54m).

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

On the other hand, last season's Premier League runners-up have offloaded some bit-part players, seeing Mohamed Elneny and Arthur Okonkwo leave on free transfers before selling Emile Smith Rowe to Fulham for around £34m ($44m).

Arteta's side have been linked with more signings, such as midfielder Mikel Merino, while forward Eddie Nketiah could depart the English capital, and the coach has not ruled out further transfers as he outlined the club's strategy.

  • WHAT ARTETA SAID

He told reporters: "After the season we had two objectives – the main and most important one is make sure we are still in love with our players. Then, OK if there are still opportunities in the market we will look at them."

He added: "I already said at the beginning that the main focus is to improve our players and find margins that help them find a level that they probably hadn’t even dreamed about."

    WHAT NEXT FOR ARSENAL?

Arsenal still have two weeks left to strengthen their squad before the summer transfer window closes. However, Arteta will have to use what he already has at his disposal when they take on Wolves in their first game of the new Premier League campaign on Saturday.
