Lionel Messi factor! Liga MX star Brian Rodriguez hints at snubbing La Liga transfer in order to join Argentine GOAT in MLS at Inter Miami

Uruguay international Rodriguez is currently on the books of Mexican outfit Club America. He is, however, attracting interest from the United States - having previously helped LAFC to Supporters’ Shield glory during a two-year stint in California.

The 25-year-old winger is also being monitored by teams in Spain, with a first challenge in Europe holding obvious appeal to the South American forward. He faces quite the quandary when it comes to big future calls.

Rodriguez admits that the opportunity to play alongside eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi and iconic fellow countryman Luis Suarez in South Florida would be difficult to turn down - especially as there is no telling how much longer those legendary forwards will hang around in Miami.

Rodriguez said when asked about his transfer options: “Inter Miami's interest is real. We've been talking about it for a couple of weeks. I spoke with Luis Suarez about the club and it was an honor to talk to him.

“There is a possibility of going to Spain, I prefer to go to Spain, but on the other side is going to play with Suarez and Messi, that weighs on me. I'm also going to talk to Marcelo [Bielsa, Uruguay manager] to see what he thinks. I've already spoken to him before about a possible move to Fiorentina - he spoke to Fiorentina at the time.”

Suarez is only working on a contract through to the end of 2025, with the 38-year-old frontman seeing imminent retirement speculated on. Messi, meanwhile, has the option to extend his stay at Chase Stadium through the 2026 MLS campaign.
