LAFC reportedly add ex-Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou to managerial shortlist as MLS side prepares for Steve Cherundolo's exit

LAFC have reportedly added former Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou to their managerial shortlist, as they prepare to fill Steve Cherundolo's head coach spot at the end of the 2025 MLS campaign. BBC was the first to report the MLS side's interest.

Cherundolo is stepping down at the end of the season and returning to Germany, where he played most of his professional career, with his family.

Postecoglou, 59, was fired by Spurs shortly after lifting the UEFA Europa League trophy with the club this past season. Tottenham have since appointed Thomas Frank as their head coach.

The 59-year-old won five trophies with Celtic across the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons with the Scottish club before moving to Spurs ahead of the 2023-24 season. The London-based club lifted the UEL trophy with Postecoglou this season, but following a poor domestic showing as Spurs finished 17th in the league standings, it wasn't enough for him to keep his job at the club.

LAFC won MLS Cup in 2022, the U.S. Open Cup in 2024, and lifted the Supporters' Shield in both 2019 and 2022, as well.

They finished the 2024 MLS regular season as Western Conference champions.

Postecoglou has also been linked with a Saudi Pro League job with Asian Champions League winners Al Ahli. German manager Matthias Jaissle has been their head coach since July 2023.

LAFC return to the pitch on Sunday in MLS action when they host the Vancouver Whitecaps. Cherundolo will remain their head coach through the remainder of the 2025 season, unless he is fired by the club.
